This textbook reviews the rules and codes of the state of Colorado which are very helpful in the everyday life of an insurance agent and insurance business. This textbook is very useful in transacting insurance and maintaining an agent’s insurance license. Also includes general information on insurance company requirements and policies.

It is the intent this book to enhance the knowledge of specific insurance laws for producers. Therefore, this booklet contains essential laws and regulations of the State of Colorado, as passed by the Colorado General Assembly and the Colorado Department of Insurance, selected from the hundreds of pages of the 2004 Colorado Revised Statutes, that Colorado insurance licensees need to know.

In addition, this book also contains 25 multiple-choice exam questions to test your knowledge of these Colorado insurance laws and regulations.

Individuals may receive disability benefits from either federal or state governments, or from private insurers. This book presents information on two components of federal disability benefits, those provided through the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. The SSDI program is an insured program that provides benefits to individuals who have paid into the system and meet certain minimum work requirements. The SSI program, in contrast, is a means-tested program that does not have work or contribution requirements, but restricts benefits to those who meet asset and resource limitations.

Bases financial treatment of life insured operations on modern financial theory, and devotes entire chapters to the economics of life and health insurance; individual life and health insurance policies; life and health insurance evaluation; the uses of life and health insurance in personal and business planning; government and employee benefit plans; and the management, operation, and regulation of life insurance companies. Offers a strong global orientation, supporting fundamental concepts with an extensive integration of economic and financial theory and international comparisons, and examines how today's health insurance products fit into a broad framework from a contractual, cost, and performance viewpoints. New chapters on the tax treatment of life and health insurance address such areas as estate planning, retirement planning, and the business uses of life and health insurance. For financial planners, salesmen, actuaries, investment managers, attorneys, CPAs, and other financial service professionals.

These briefings provide an overview of a particular segment of the private healthcare sector, particularly in developing markets.

This PHM Brief, Emerging Markets and Private Health Insurance explores this developing market. From regulatory reform in Central and Eastern Europe, to market potential in India, to takaful insurance, and much, much more, this PHM Brief is a perfect primer for investors and developers.

As the private sector continues to take on a more active role in the development and delivery of healthcare around the world, it is paramount that the key players expand their understanding of the advantages – and challenges – of private healthcare.

Topics of the PHM Briefs range from hospital development to private health insurance, to health IT, and more. The briefings are not meant to be a comprehensive analysis of the healthcare sector, but do provide insight into an exciting, and at times confusing, industry.

Available PHM Briefs include:
The Future of Private Healthcare in Emerging Markets
The Growing Health Worker Shortage Around the World
H.I.T. and Emerging Markets
Hospitals in Emerging Markets
Medical Tourism and Emerging Markets
Pharmaceutical Companies in Emerging Markets
Telemedicine and Emerging Markets

Collectively, the PHM Briefs and more are available in the book, The Global Explosion in Emerging Market Healthcare.

Slowly, the course has moved toward a consumer orientation, providing students with a broad, descriptive survey of the insurance field, covering topics such as legal aspects, life and health, and property and liability. Over the past 10 years, textbooks began to promote, and to a limited degree, incorporate a stronger business risk management component while maintaining a consumer orientation. Harrington/Niehaus' Risk Management and Insurance 2e is written to take the next step offering the essential aspects of insurance contracts and the insurance industry while providing a substantially more conceptual analysis and attention to business risk management and public policy issues that exists in current texts.

This book considers how five dimensions of governance-coherent decision-making structures, stakeholder participation, transparency and information, supervision and regulation, and consistency and stability-influence the coverage, financial protection, and efficiency of mandatory health insurance entities. It also looks at the institutional and political forces that affect the behavior of such entities within their social and historical context. It addresses these issues by analyzing experiences from four countries--Chile, Costa Rica, Estonia, and the Netherlands-and develops lessons for developing countries related to these important dimensions of governance, paying special attention to questions of assuring solvency, financial protection, and quality health care services.

"More and more each year, the modern corporation must decide what risks to keep and what risks to shed to remain competitive and to maximize its value for the capital employed. Culp explains the theory and practice of risk transfer through either balance sheet mechanism such as structured finance, derivative transactions, or insurance. Equity is expensive and risk transfer is expensive. As understanding grows, and, as a result, costs continue to fall, ART will continue to replace equity as the means to cushion knowable risks. This book enhances our understanding of ART."
--Myron S. Scholes, Frank E. Buck Professor of Finance, Emeritus, Graduate School of Business, Stanford University

"A must-read for everyone offering structured finance as a business, and arguably even more valuable to any one expected to pay for such service."
--Norbert Johanning, Managing Director, DaimlerChrysler Financial Services

"Culp's latest book provides a comprehensive account of the most important financing and risk management innovations in both insurance and capital markets. And it does so by fitting these innovative solutions and products into a single, unified theory of financial markets that integrates the once largely separate disciplines of insurance and risk management with the current theory and practice of corporate finance."
--Don Chew, Editor, Journal of Applied Corporate Finance (a Morgan Stanley publication)

"This exciting book is a comprehensive read on alternative insurance solutions available to corporations. It focuses on the real benefits, economical and practical, of alternatives such as captives, rent-a-captive, and mutuals. An excellent introduction to the very complex field of alternative risk transfer (ART)."
--Paul Wohrmann, PhD, Head of the Center of Excellence ART and member of theExecutive Management of Global Corporate in Europe, Zurich Financial Services

"Structured Finance and Insurance transcends Silos to reach the Enterprise Mountaintop. Culp superbly details integrated, captive, multiple triggers and capital market products, and provides the architectural blueprints for enterprise risk innovation."
--Paul Wagner, Director, Risk Management, AGL Resources Inc.

This is the best book you can own on the strategies YOU need to use to get the insurance companies to pay you ALL the money you are entitled to collect when you have a claim. Wouldn't you agree that nothing else matters about insurance other than getting the claim PAID IN FULL?

In this book, you will learn:
– The games and scams insurance companies use to cut costs and keep claim payments at the lowest amounts possible
– When it's the right time to use an attorney
– How you can take control of your claim, and not allow the insurance company or claims adjuster to control YOU
– What a Public Adjuster is, and the valuable help you can get from Public Adjusters
– That the insurance adjuster is NOT there to help you
– and much more

              You will learn:
– What to do when you have a car accident...BEFORE you open the car door or talk to anyone
– How much MORE money I collected (thousands!) in the two little claims I had while writing this book
– About Diminished Value on automobiles, and how it can cost you THOUSANDS if you don't fight
– About cheap aftermarket auto parts that insurance companies LOVE, but leave you less safe
– And so much more

Ask yourself these questions:
Do you carry a spare tire and jumper cables in the trunk of your car?
Do you have a toolbox at home?
Have you ever bought a book or read an article that showed you how to fix something?
Do you own a first aid kit?
Do you have a fire extinguisher or smoke alarms in your home?
Why would you do ANY of those things?

Answer: So you are prepared BEFORE something bad happens.

READ THIS BOOK BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO YOU!!! READ THIS BOOK AFTER SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO YOU, TO KEEP IT FROM GETTING WORSE!

This book should be on the shelf in EVERY HOME. This book should be in EVERY automobile glove box.
